Municipal elections: Postal voting begins

Postal voting for the November 7 municipal elections began Monday.

This will allow municipal returning officers to begin sending ballots to registered voters.

Voting by mail is provided to residents in CHSLDs, retirement homes, rehabilitation centers or hospitals, but also to people who are unable to travel due to health reasons.

Individuals who live alone due to the recommendation or order of caregivers and public health officials living at the same address are also eligible to vote by mail.

Also, more than 450 municipalities allow citizens aged 70 and over to vote by mail.

Those eligible to vote by mail must register by phone or in writing with their Municipality Returning Officer by October 27th.

Upon completion of the verifications, postal voters will receive a voting kit containing a ballot, an envelope and a return envelope, the voter’s declaration form and instructions for each place they cast their ballots.

The envelope containing the ballot paper will be opened on election night during the early counting of votes.

Ballots must be mailed or in person no later than 4:30 pm on Friday, November 5th.
