A father and daughter in Monterrey could not believe their eyes when they learned that the 2006.5-pound huge pumpkin had broken the Canadian record this month.

“When we saw his weight on a scale, I could not believe it. I really did not expect it. We have been wanting a pumpkin that weighs more than a ton for many years,” he said. Journal Kelsey Bryson.

Jim, 22, and her father, who lives about an hour’s from Montreal in the Ormstown municipality, have been growing large pumpkins for over a decade.

Each fall, the two go to a giant pumpkin and vegetable competition in Woodbridge, Ontario. Kelsey Bryson says this year is one to remember because of her record for being the heaviest pumpkin in the country.

“It’s very insane to know we have the first pumpkin in Canada weighing more than 2,000 pounds. The competition is even more intense.

The secret recipe?

Kelsey and Jim Bryson used a strange method to get their big pumpkin.

“Among other things, we put maple syrup in the clay. It may surprise people, but it really helps with bacteria, ”said MMe Bryson.

Among her other secrets to getting a 2006 pound pumpkin, she says she never plowed the soil in her garden. The Bryson family now wants to break the world record. The pumpkin, which weighs 2,702 pounds, was the second made in Italy this month, according to Guinness World Records.
