Mardi, Press The Stephen Bronfman team behind the construction of the new baseball stadium in the Peel Basin is reportedly hoping to receive hundreds of millions of dollars from the government in support of their project, valued at up to $ 1 billion.
Quebec assistance is in the form of grants and forgivable loans aimed at achieving the principle of zero cost for taxpayers. The Montreal Baseball Group, led by the wealthy Bronfman family, provided a variety of scenarios for financial assistance.
Last March, a poll conducted by Leger found that 60% of Cubans were against the idea of the government financially participating in the development, which would bring a professional baseball team back to the metropolis.
In recent months, Prime Minister Franois Legalt has shown that he is ready to help finance the construction. He believes the arrival of the baseball team could create new revenue for the state.
Not profitable
According to the Canadian Taxpayers Federation, a part-time team is not profitable. Montreal Baseball Group Tampa Bay Rays wants to play half their game in Montreal.
To achieve this, the Major League Baseball and Players’ Union must also support the idea of dividing the team between the two cities.
“We are not working with a part-time team to make a billion-dollar project profitable,” Mr Brozard warned. “The government should give a clear no and save millions of dollars to taxpayers by refusing to subsidize the new stadium,” he concluded.
According to La Press, the Stephen Bronfaman team is due to meet with Montreal Mayor Valerie Plante in the coming weeks. Promoters will also consider giving more information about their project in early 2022.
