Eastern REM: Plante Administration Condemns Interview

On Tuesday morning, in a parliamentary committee of the National Assembly, the CEO of the Caisse de dépôt, Charles Emond, argued that Valerie Plante himself was “delighted” to develop the city.

“The social acceptability issues related to urban integration in the city center and in the Mercier-Hochelaga-Mysannyev area raised in the expert report have not been resolved. The changes proposed to the government are definitely focused on improving the path, ”she said.

Initially, Eastern REM was developed by CDPQ Infra, a major infrastructure subsidiary of Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec (CDPQ).

However, on Monday, the Quebec government and the city of Montreal announced that they were seizing the eastern REM project from the hands of the CDPQ and leaving the city center section, which has caused much controversy.

The project will henceforth be run in collaboration with the Society de Transport de Montreal (STM) and the Autorite Regional de Transport Metropolitan. Extending the route to the Laval and Lanaudier area is also considered.
