According to the former Canadian ambassador to China, Ottawa’s decision to ban Huawei from its 5G network will have consequences.

“I think the people of Ottawa are a little scared, they should remember what former Chinese ambassadors to Ottawa did a few years ago, he said:” If Canada does not allow Huawei to get involved in 5G in Canada, there will be retaliation, “Guy Saint-Jacques said.
Keep in mind that this country, without publicly acknowledging, even imprisoned two Michaels for espionage after Canadian authorities arrested director Meng Wanzhou.
“In this case, I’m not worried about Canadians living in China, I do not think China will take Canadians hostage because they do so when people are arrested for espionage reasons,” he said.
According to the former ambassador, China on the other hand may be tempted to hurt the Canadian economy.
“We export a lot of products to China. They see what we export. What else can they get and I think they want to show an example. Make Canada an example to other countries that are tempted to reject Huawei: “If you do, see what happens to you, the same thing will happen in Canada,” the former ambassador explained.
