Detainee Tamara Licht will learn her fate on Friday

Tamara Licht, the leader of the “Freedom Convoy” that crippled Ottawa last winter, will remain in custody until at least Friday pending a court decision on allegations she violated the conditions of her release.

A justice of the peace is expected to rule on whether Leach violated his bail conditions by appearing with another leader of the trucking convoy at a gala in Toronto in June.

Arrested in Alberta on June 27 for violating bail conditions, Ms. Leach appeared at a hearing Tuesday in which the Crown introduced text messages from the defendant into evidence.

Crown prosecutor Moise Karinzi said Licht violated one of the conditions of his release by appearing with fellow Ottawa protest leader Tom Marrazzo.

To drive the point home, the Crown provided a text exchange between Leach and Chris Barber, another organizer of the truckers’ convoy, in which the Albertan opened a command center in Ottawa “with a strategy to block the city.”

Defense lawyer Lawrence Greenspan dismissed the prosecution, arguing Ms Lich’s actions did not constitute a breach before his client called for bail.

A peace decision was reserved for Friday.
