After an emotional and surprising first round, especially for Canadian fans, the 2022 draft continues today in Montreal.

Last night Hughes hosted the show first, pulling off a somewhat upset selection of big Slovakian winger Juraj Slafkowski with the first overall pick. He bought out Blackhawks center Kirby Dach before picking up Philip Messer, Slafkowski’s compatriot and good friend, with his second of the night.

In addition to the 33rd pick, Hughes would normally benefit from another second-round pick, the 62nd overall pick. The Montreal GM then has eight other picks, split between the third and seventh rounds. It’s a lot and it’s no wonder Hughes exchanges some in the morning or during a session.
