The Quebec government has reached an agreement with dental surgeons

After five years of negotiations, an agreement in principle has been reached between Quebec and the Association of Dental Surgeons of Quebec (ACDQ), ministers Sonia Lebel and Christian Dubey announced in a press release Friday morning.

d^R ACDQ President Carl Tremblay was pleased with the outcome of the negotiations, especially since the last agreement expired seven years ago in April 2015.

“After five years of difficult negotiations with the government regarding the framework agreement which expired in April 2015, we finally have a proposal in hand that we can present to our members at our next general meeting. I would like to emphasize the dedication of ACDQ members, because despite the absence of an agreement with the Quebec government, the province’s dentists have been providing top quality oral care to Quebec beneficiaries for more than seven years. Details of the deal will not be made public until ACDQ, which represents 4,300 dental surgeons, makes an offer to its members.

But the press release suggests that the negotiated measures could “fully recognize the contribution of dentists while promoting access to health care in collaboration with other stakeholders in the health and social services network.”

“I am very pleased with this mutually satisfactory agreement for the parties and I appreciate their remarkable efforts to bring it to a conclusion. Our dentists are important and guarantee quality care and services to all citizens of Quebec,” said Sonia Lebel, President of the Treasury Board.

“The health of Quebecers also depends on oral health. Our dentists are important partners in the health care system. I want to thank them for their work,” said Christian Dubé, Minister of Health and Social Services.
