Quebecers traveling to the Dominican Republic were confined to their hotel rooms as Hurricane Fiona hit the country on Monday.

“It’s very quiet in here compared to outside. It is in a hurry. It was much quieter there than 30 minutes ago. There it was moderated, but not pretty to look at, not pretty to look at,” Yvan Leonard said in an interview with LCN.
Viharat took photos of the hotel complex he was in, where you can see uprooted trees and debris lying on the ground.
Around 9pm on Sunday, hotel guests had to return to their rooms.
“At 9:30 p.m., they came to bring food for breakfast, dinner and supper tonight, so we were stuck in the room until dinner, until further notice”, the man explained.
The couple, who “accidentally” traveled to the country to surprise two friends, waited for communication from the hotel to leave their room.
Quebecers are now wondering when they will return home.
“We certainly cannot leave to-morrow because the roads must also be taken through the trees, so we wait for the return of the mail either by the door or by the telephone in the room,” said Mr. Leonard.
