A woman was swallowed by a python in Indonesia

A 50-year-old man working on a plantation in Indonesia was killed by a python that swallowed her body whole, various local media reported.

The victim, Zahra, worked in a rubber fig plantation in Jambi, Sumatra Island.

Worried that she did not come home after work on Sunday, her husband went to the garden where he found some of her personal belongings like sandals and a scarf.

A search the next morning made it possible to find the person responsible for the disappearance: a seven-meter-long python with an unusually swollen stomach.

“The snake is believed to have bitten the victim. After catching her, we found the victim in her stomach,” local police chief AKP S Harefa told local media.

According to CNN Indonesia, the police clarified that the victim’s body was practically intact.

Pythons capture their prey by choking, first swallowing it whole and slowly digesting it. Cases of attacks by humans are rare, but not impossible.

According to “The Guardian”, there have been two other similar cases in Indonesia in recent years. In 2017, a farmer was swallowed by a farmer on the island of Sulawesi, and in 2018, a woman suffered the same fate while gardening on the island of Muna.
