Supreme Court blocks transfer of Trump’s tax returns to Congress

Donald Trump, who has been fighting for years to keep his tax returns secret, got another reprieve from the US Supreme Court on Tuesday.

The Democratic-controlled House of Representatives has been demanding since 2019 documents the former Republican president sent to tax officials between 2015 and 2020.

But, unlike all tenants of the White House since the 1970s, Donald Trump has always refused to release his tax returns and has fought hard in court to block Congress’s request.

After several episodes, a federal appeals court finally authorized tax officials last week to hand over the documents to the commission, which could happen before the Nov. 8 midterm elections.

The real estate mogul sent a final emergency appeal to the United States Supreme Court.

In keeping with its procedures, it suspended the transfer on Tuesday pending a decision on the merits. She asked the commission to present her arguments by November 10 and take its decision with ease.

Although it was heavily revised by Donald Trump, the high court imposed several hurdles on the issue and notably authorized the transfer of financial documents to a New York judge investigating its affairs in 2020.

The lack of transparency of the real estate magnate, who has turned his fortune into a campaign argument, has fueled speculation over the years about his fortune or potential conflicts.
