Pro-Russian hackers claim cyberattack on Hydro-Quebec

Hydro-Quebec’s website and application were unavailable Thursday due to a cyberattack claimed by group NoName057 (16) on Telegram.

The cyberattack “resulted in the shutdown of our website and mobile application (including customer space and info-panes). Our defense systems detected the attack quickly,” he confirmed destiny State Corporation Representative, Philip Archbault.

“Hydro-Québec’s critical systems were not affected. There was no data infiltration or exfiltration. No personal data was compromised,” he said in an email.

“Our teams are working to get our website, customer space and our mobile application online as soon as possible,” added Mr. Archbault, without giving any indication of the restoration of services.

Another spokesman for the state corporation, Francis Laub, told The Canadian Press that he could not speculate on the identity of any individual or group responsible for the cyberattack.

In the past few days, some Canadian organizations have been targeted by cyberattacks, pro-Russian groups claim.

After Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s site on Tuesday, hackers blocked the sites of Port of Quebec, Laurentian Bank and Prévost Bus Company.

On Wednesday afternoon, Montreal Mayor Valérie Plante announced that the Port of Montreal was also affected.

Francis Labey indicated that Hydro-Québec has a team of about 300 people at its service to prevent cyberattacks as much as possible and to deal with them when they occur.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, for his part, has not allowed himself to be swayed by these attempts at instability. “Clearly, Canada’s strong and clear stance in favor of Ukraine and against Russia’s illegal actions is troubling to the Russian government and pro-Russian hackers,” he told reporters. “Obviously, we will not in any way relinquish our unwavering support to Ukraine and the cause it is fighting for. »
