Tiny houses in downtown Montreal

A developer and architectural firm came up with the idea to convert the emergency exits of a heritage building on Pierce Street in Montreal, near Concordia University, into six tiny houses.

Priced at $2,300 per month, the rental units are 350 square feet across three floors, where everything has been thought of to maximize space.

Thus, there are drawers in one staircase and a desk that can be stored on the wall.

The kitchen and bathroom are on the ground floor, the living room is on the first floor and the bedroom is on the second floor.

According to the designer of these housing units, there are other buildings in the city that can accommodate such projects.

“There is enormous potential to develop existing buildings, explains Le Bourgne Rijk, architect of the Amani Rijk firm. The interesting thing here is that we didn’t start from scratch, we recovered to make an extraordinary project.

“So it’s possible to use this built heritage that we have in Montreal to avoid the housing crisis,” she adds.
