Our analysis

Twenty-four choices of mozzarella cheese were relevant to our analysis.

A 30 g portion was used to compare products.

Each 30g portion (about 3cm cube) provides:

  • Between 70 and 110 calories
  • Between 4.5 and 9 g of lipids, including 2.5 and 6 g of saturated fat
  • Between 0 and 2 g of carbohydrates
  • Between 7 and 9 g of protein
  • Between 150 and 250 mg of sodium
  • Between 15 and 20% calcium

Best options

A partially skimmed mozza cheese from P’tit Québec One of the best options. A 30 g serving contains 80 calories, 5 g fat, 3.5 g saturated fat, 9 g protein, 190 mg sodium and 19% calcium. This mozzarella cheese is the least rich in lipids and saturated fats, and the richest in proteins and calcium on the test bench. In addition, it contains less sodium than the average of the evaluated products.

Part-Skim Mozzarella Cheese from Untitled Also one of the best options. A 30 g serving provides 6 g of fat, including 90 calories, 3.5 g of saturated fat, 9 g of protein, 200 mg of sodium and 19% calcium. It is the lowest in saturated fat among mozzarella cheeses and the highest in protein and calcium tested. In addition, it contains less sodium than the average cheese analyzed.

Saputo’s mild mozzarella cheese Completes the best options. A 30 g serving provides 4.5 g of fat, including 80 calories, 3 g of saturated fat, 9 g of protein, 220 mg of sodium and 17% calcium. Its nutritional value is low in saturated fat and one of the highest in protein among mozzarella cheeses. In addition, it contains more calcium than the average of the analyzed products.

Compromises

Galban’s Light Pizza Mozzarella Cheesei is one of the compromises. A 30 g serving provides 4.5 g lipids including 70 calories, 2.5 g saturated fat, 9 g protein, 230 mg sodium and 20% calcium. It is the lowest saturated fat mozzarella cheese. Plus, it’s the richest in protein and calcium on the test bench. However, it contains more sodium than the average of the analyzed products. Galbanise Pizza Mozzarella cheese has similar nutritional value.

Compliments are part-skim mozzarella cheese It is also a part of compromises. A 30 g serving contains 90 calories, 5 g fat, 3.5 g saturated fat, 9 g protein, 220 mg sodium and 19% calcium. It is one of the lowest in saturated fat and richest in protein and calcium cheeses tested. However, it contains a little more sodium than average.

Pizza mozzarella cheese from Irrésistibles Completes compromises. A 30 g serving provides 6 g of fat, including 90 calories, 4 g of saturated fat, 8 g of protein, 200 mg of sodium and 15% calcium. It contains less fat, saturated fat and sodium as well as more protein than the estimated average product. On the other hand, it was one of the lowest calcium cheeses on the test bench.

Least good choices

A 30 g portion of these three cheeses provides between 100 and 110 calories, 5 g of saturated fat, 7 g of protein, 240 mg of sodium and 8 g of lipids, including 15% calcium. These cheeses are therefore among the choices high in saturated fat and sodium, as well as among the choices low in protein and calcium on the test bench.

Finally, Black Diamond Mozzarella Completes less good options. A 30 g serving provides 9 g of fat, including 110 calories, 6 g of saturated fat, 7 g of protein, 220 mg of sodium and 15% calcium. This mozzarella cheese is the richest in saturated fat on the test bench. In addition, it contains more sodium, less protein and less calcium than the estimated average product.

List of ingredients

All mozzarella cheeses analyzed have a relatively short and simple list of ingredients. Most of them contain modified dairy products (79%).
