Does your car leak when it rains? It could be one of fifteen models from the Volkswagen and Audi brands that are the subject of a class action request filed this week.
“He was anchored in the tank. Mushrooms were growing between my carpets,” testified Pascal Juneau, 25, a resident of Sainte-Marguerite-du-lac-Mason in Laurentians.
Mr. Juneau is the spokesperson for the class action request filed Monday in a Montreal courthouse. The request targets Volkswagen Group Canada and Audi Canada.
In June, Mr. Juneau purchased a used 2017 Golf Sportswagon from a seller that offers various brands of vehicles. Inspection of seller or mr. An independent inspection paid for by Juneau did not reveal any specific problems, the motion said.
Even without a sunroof
Knowing that some vehicles of the same brand have problems with water infiltration through the panoramic roof, he opted for a model without a sunroof. However, dark circles quickly appeared on the roof of his car.
“Every time it rains, I have to run with the heater on full blast,” Mr. Juneau explained in an interview. Water is flowing over the wiring,” he explains.
In December, he paid nearly $400 for an inspection through his Volkswagen dealership. After that they said that the problem is normal. As the warranty period has expired, four speakers in the vehicle are advised to be replaced… at own expense. This means paying more than $2100.
“The problem though [fréquent]There is a mistake somewhere,” said Mr. Juneau, who feels cheated.
But Volkswagen is aware of this problem. “This can cause problems with, among other things, mold, corrosion, bad odors, and malfunctions in the electrical or audio system,” we list in the request.
Another class action has also been filed in the United States over the same issue, which is said to be due to “premature failure of the joints,” which describes the Quebec lawsuit, which speaks of a “hidden defect.”
Shifting responsibility
In this case, manufacturers are “only denying their responsibility” when they conduct a recall or undertake repairs to correct the defect, explained Jimmy Lambert, the attorney behind the request.
In Quebec’s request, we want all people who bought or leased a vehicle from a list of 15 models from 2015 to 2023 to be compensated and reimbursed for repairs.
At the time of publication, neither Volkswagen nor Audi Canada had responded to our email.
The class action request has not yet been authorized by a judge and therefore may not move forward. However, potential members can learn more here www.lambertavocats.ca/recours-collectif-volkswagen/
