(Montreal) Police in Burlington, Vermont, say residents are finding Apple AirTags and other GPS tracking devices hidden in their vehicles as they return from Montreal.
The Burlington Police Department said last week that it received two separate reports from residents who found the devices in their vehicles in the past month.
Police say these technologies are believed to be installed by criminals and are asking anyone who sees a suspicious device on their vehicle to call police.
The warning comes as police forces across Canada grapple with a rise in car thefts, with criminals using faster and more sophisticated methods to track vehicles and steal them.
Toronto police and other police forces have warned that car thieves are subsequently using devices such as “AirTags” to identify and track stolen vehicles.
Police are also concerned about how quickly criminals can steal cars using various methods to circumvent anti-theft technology, including hacking on-board diagnostic systems.
