Staff at New Westminster Retirement Home exams positive for COVID-19

Fraser Health officials said a staff member tested positive for COVID-19 at the Thornbridge Gardens Retirement Residence in New Westminster, BC.

The health authority said in a statement that it was working with staff to identify those who had been exposed and had appointed a rapid response team to assist in the communication of residents and families.

Additional team members provide pathological inspections at the residence and answer questions from staff, residents and family members.

Positively tested staff self-isolation at home.

Fraser Health advises that cleaning and infection control measures be expedited and that staff and residents be tested twice a day.

Thornbridge Gardens is now closed to visitors and the movement of staff and residents is restricted to auxiliary and independent living quarters.

Nine long-term care and seniors’ homes in BC are currently dealing with the spread of COVID-19. They are:

  • Banfield Pavilion is a long-term care facility.
  • Point Gray Private Hospital is a long-term care facility.
  • Yaletown House is a long-term care facility.
  • Cherington Place is a long-term care facility.
  • Evergreen Hamlets is a long-term care facility.
  • Kin Village Assisted-Living Facility.
  • Milliu Children and Family Services Society Community-Living Facility.
  • New Vista Care Home is a long-term care facility.
  • Redu Retirement Center is an independent-living facility.

Some care facilities have been repeatedly spread – on Friday, the Holy Family Hospital in Vancouver announced the third outbreak of COVID-19 with a single broadcast.

As of FridayIn BC, 1,349 active cases of COVID-19 were reported, 62 of whom were hospitalized, 19 of whom were in intensive care.

Public health activists are actively monitoring 3,533 people across the self-isolated province due to COVID-19 exposure.
