Abused by their landlord, tenants in Sorrell-Tracy cried out after months of living in substandard housing.
Poorly maintained accommodation, broken windows, balconies without ramps: Neighbors say the building has been unsanitary for at least 10 years.
The last two people living in it decided to leave it last week.
Evicted by her landlord, a woman living on the first floor has only two hours to pack all her boxes. However, she never had time to take her possessions, ending up on the street with nothing. Fortunately, the Red Cross took care of her and gave her a three-day stay in a motel.
Dominique Gosselin, co-ordinator of Action Logement Pierre-de Saurel, which helps tenants, said the owner of the accommodation had also behaved illegally towards the tenants.
“There were fights between the landlord and the tenants. Witnesses saw the landlord fighting with his tenants, threatening them with a knife and threatening to kill their animals. He uses violent methods against his tenants. He also cut the electricity, took away the water, vandalized people’s cars and ripped up trunks,” Mr. Gosselin told TVA Novelles.
TVA Nouvelles attempted to reach the owner Sunday afternoon.
