A play for children sparked controversy in Lewis

A play for children to be performed in Lewis this summer is causing quite a stir on social networks.

Many parents consider the words of the play to be grosophobic. A situation strongly condemned by a mother from Lewis.

Angelica Trotier, the mother of a 2-year-old boy, explains, “I found it a bit absurd to see that this piece was given to children and that it was specified for 4 to 12 year olds.”

She said she dropped out of her chair earlier this week when she received a guide to activities offered by the City of Lewis this summer.

“I saw a play called Diet Ketchup. As I read the description, both hands fell from me. We are talking about clown ketchup who has extra pounds and to lose weight, his friends prevent him from eating his favorite meal. At a time when we are a community, I find that delivering to our children is not a great message. These are grosophobic comments, ”she adds.

For his part, the director of the company that produces the piece, Mary-Stella, justifies himself.

“It’s just for fun. I do not think it’s objectionable,” said Mary-Christine Morin. “She’s still sensitive to the situation and probably wants to change the part.

In the city of Lewis, there is no question of canceling performances at the event. We will be answered by email[…] The play was also screened at city events and received no negative reactions from small and large audiences. The play will be performed at two Lewis parks on June 27 and 28.
