The Telecom-Television Services Complaints Commission (CCTS) on Monday increased the number of irregular or inadequate internet services by 1,250, or 13.9% of the 9,121 new cases handled over a six-month period, completed on January 31, 2021.
While the quality of internet service was denied 884 times out of 8621 complaints, the total number of complaints for all types of services overseen by CCTS also increased by 6% compared to the 2019-2020 year report published last year.
The CCTS report released on Monday, which marks the beginning of the second wave of the pandemic, has forced many Canadian families to work from home due to lockdowns.
Meanwhile, businesses, governments and healthcare companies have increased their reliance on remote communications to provide their services to clients and patients.
The CCTS report indicates that wireless services continue to have the highest number of complaints, but that number has dropped by 19.5%. Complaints about local phone service, television service and other telecommunication services have decreased since the six-month period ending January 31, 2020.
