Collaboration and innovation: The University of Morocco opens a branch in Montreal

The University of Morocco is opening a new international branch in Montreal called “UM6P Canada” with the aim of strengthening relations between Africa and North America.

Established in Morocco since 2017 and recognized for its commitment to science and innovation, the Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P) relies on its partnership with several Canadian universities to strengthen ties between Africa and North America, she explained in a press release on Saturday.

The university plans to develop “favorable transcontinental relationships” with its current Canadian partners such as UQAM, Laval University, University of Sherbrooke, University of Alberta and University of Manitoba, but also “with the entire Canadian academic ecosystem, [de] Research and Innovation”.

“In collaboration with our Canadian partners, we respond to the need for innovation and promote international collaboration in the face of contemporary challenges. This opening is part of a proactive approach to solving global issues such as energy transition, environmental sustainability and advances in artificial intelligence,” announced UM6P President Hicham El Habti.

UM6P Canada focuses on four key areas of research and development, continuing education, entrepreneurship and capacity building.

“This new antenna […] Actively contributes to North America's innovation ecosystem by supporting projects in five key sectors: agriculture, energy, mining, artificial intelligence and sustainable development.

UM6P specifically aims to end trade agreements, file patent applications and transfer technologies while promoting the creation of businesses. The university has also set up funds to invest in emerging companies and invest in the creative ideas of students enrolled in their programs.
