Another Tory not paying his dues

The Conservative Party of Quebec (PCQ) candidate has not paid his taxes on profits related to the sale of dozens of vehicles.

A 2010 Quebec court ruling found Tommy Paygo, a candidate in Dubuque, Saguenay, bought and resold several vehicles between 2004 and 2007 without declaring his profits to tax authorities.

Pageau also made a false declaration to the Société d’assurance automobile du Québec (SAAQ) for the purchase of a van to avoid paying taxes, asserts the same ruling.

Personally, he bought between 50 and 75 vehicles with the aim of reselling them, Judge Pierre Lartie explained in his decision. He defrauded the SAAQ by registering far fewer vehicles than he actually earned, “to avoid paying duties,” the magistrate wrote.

False statements

Tommy Paygo was never charged for these actions, as revealed in a $27,000 dispute between him and his insurer, Axa Assurances.

A judge found Page made “false statements” to his insurer to obtain higher damages after a Ford Ranger pickup truck and ATV were allegedly stolen.

News magazine The Daily In 2014, Mr. Paygo was fired from the Canada Revenue Agency six months before the ruling that he was not declaring his profits for tax purposes. Mr. Paygo ran for the Quebec Liberal Party in Janquier in April 2014.

Second chance

The PCQ said it became aware of the article when Mr Pageau applied.

“The PLQ did not withdraw this candidate in 2014, and 15 years after the fact, it is even more inappropriate to do so,” Véronique Gagnon, communications manager at the PCQ, said via email. She argued that people have the right to a “second chance at life”.
