The iPhone XS models and the new feature include both a physical SIM slot and a digital eSIM, which allows for a feature called dual SIM, Dual Standby. This means you can have two lines of services on one iPhone, which can be used to purchase data-only plans when traveling abroad or to have personal and business routes on the same iPhone.
5G is not available in dual SIM mode According to an internal training document for Apple employees, when the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro were launched Shared on Reddit. Macroomers can confirm that the document is authentic.
From the document:
“Does 5G work with dual SIM?”
When using two lines in dual SIM mode, 5G data is not supported on both lines and returns to 4G LTE. If customers only use eSIM and are on a carrier and service plan with 5G support, they will have 5G access.
According to an internal Verizon slide obtained by Macroomers, Apple plans to launch 5G support in dual SIM mode with a software update later this year. In the meantime, Verizon says ISIM customers must remove the physical SIM from their iPhone 12 or iPhone 12 Pro to access its 5G network.
5G will be enabled automatically on the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro models, as long as users choose a supported wireless carrier that provides a 5G network. To access 5G while roaming in other countries, users can purchase a local SIM card or ISIM plan and use it as a single line with 5G where available, the document said.
IPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro pre-orders started last Friday and shipments to customers will begin this coming Friday. The iPhone 12 Mini and iPhone 12 Pro Max will be available for pre-order from Friday, November 6th.
