As the influenza season approaches, it is time to get vaccinated.

This year, the influenza vaccine is more important than ever to protect ourselves and our loved ones as we fight COVID-19. With symptoms similar to COVID-19, influenza is an infectious respiratory disease that can lead to serious illness, hospitalization, and death.

We urge everyone to make plans now, schedule an appointment for a flu shot and be ready for the flu season, which usually starts in November.

If influenza spreads rapidly in our communities like COVID-19, it will overwhelm our health care system and put our loved ones at risk.

Vaccine supplies have begun to arrive and Interior Health has already set up targeted clinics for high-risk individuals. We also work in partnership with physicians, nurses, pharmacists, and licensed nurse practitioners to ensure the wide distribution of the influenza vaccine. The chances of getting your flu shot continue throughout the fall and winter.

It is important to protect yourself and loved ones by getting a flu shot and staying home when you are sick. In the coming weeks, vaccinate your bubble as an extra protection during the COVID-19 pandemic.

To find a provider near you, visit Immunize BC. Plan in advance to get your shot as most providers require you to book an appointment in advance.
