The York Region says businesses that fail to comply with regulations aimed at stopping the spread of COVID-19 could face a $ 5,000 fine per day.
On Sunday evening, Dr Kareem Kurzi, a medical officer with the area health department, said he had issued a class order stating that meeting limits and businesses such as event venues, malls and retail outlets should determine capacity limits and strictly observe physical distance.
The order, issued under Section 22 of Ontario’s Health Care and Promotion Act, goes into effect Monday, November 23 at 12:01 p.m.
Kurzi said the move is the next step in a series of improved measures implemented by the York Region to limit the spread of COVID-19.
This area is at the Red-Control level of the Province’s COVID-19 Framework for Restrictions.

By his order, meeting and event venues, banquet halls, conference rooms and convention centers were to have 50 caps for each event.
Shopping malls and retail stores should look for physical distance in common areas, washrooms, halls and entrances as well as lineups.
