Canceled flights: United Airlines offers triple pay for pilots

To avoid further flight cancellations, the American company United Airlines has proposed a threefold increase in the salaries of pilots who agree to operate additional flights.

Pilots could earn three-and-a-half times their pay for extra flights made between December 30 and January 3, NBC News reported Friday after sending a note to the carrier crew.

Their pay will also triple for any additions made between January 4 and 29, according to a document sent by Brian Quigley, the company’s responsible for flight operations.

The manager called the offer “important”, insisting that it had entered into an agreement with the Airline Pilots Association to “do everything in our power to take care of customers during this difficult time”.

Thousands of flights have been canceled in the United States in recent days due to crew missing after being hit by the COVID-19, but Hurricane Frida has spread across the country.

More than 2,650 domestic and international flights have already been canceled from the United States or on Monday evening.
