CAQ depends on our lack of memory

Allow me to play the prophet of doom, Mr. Legault, and predict to you that even before you call the election, your almost certain victory is less spectacular than it was four years ago.

You want to explain your success by using two sauces to make your dish delicious: economy and nationality.

You are sensitive to the problem of Quebecers in business, it is true. You come from this background…

Much of the influence that Quebec could have had in this region has been unnecessarily obscured by English social names … a situation you are in no hurry to correct!

Three slaps

As for nationalism or identity, Mr. Legault, I don’t see where your CAQ has made any progress.

You’ll be surprised that everyone has forgotten the three slaps Ottawa gave you at the start of your mandate: the first on immigration, the second when the federal government refused to apply Bill 101 to employees in Quebec, and the third with the single tax return you’re requesting.

Do you have the courage to propose sectoral referendums in these three areas to give you momentum against arrogant Ottawa? I highly doubt it… you are counting on star candidates from the media to woo the politically illiterate population…

So attack!

Mr. Legault often says that offense is the best defense.

In these areas where Quebec can assert itself and Ottawa is wary of capitulation, you must constantly remind yourself of your legitimacy as the leader of the only French-speaking nation in North America!

Oops! You seem to be banking more on your people’s failed memory to make people forget the slaps they received… That’s why I predict the enthusiasm for CAQ at the polls will be more mixed in 2022 than in 2018.
