Christmas meetings are in danger as COVID-19 hospitals rise in Quebec

Montreal – Quebec Premier Franకోois Legalt on Tuesday warned that a provincial plan to allow four-day meetings during Christmas was in jeopardy.

“We are not going in the right direction,” Legalt told a news conference in Quebec City. “If hospitalizations are on the rise, it’s hard to take that risk.”

According to public health officials, 719 people were hospitalized on Tuesday due to the novel coronavirus, an increase of 26 over the previous day. Of those, 98 were in intensive care, an increase of four.

More than 700 people were last hospitalized in Quebec on June 15, according to information from Quebec’s National Public Health Agency.

Legalt said some hospitals are reaching out for the ability to treat COVID-19 patients.

Quebec on Tuesday reported 1,177 new cases of COVID-19 and 28 additional deaths associated with the coronavirus novel.

According to public health officials, three of those deaths occurred in the previous 24 hours, while the rest occurred earlier.

Legault said he was also concerned about the situation in private seniors residences.

According to public health officials, there are currently 120 private seniors residences, of which at least one is an active case COVID-19. Among them, there are 20 facilities where more than 25 percent of residents have active cases of COVID-19.

Quebec has reported 143,548 COVID-19 and 7,084 deaths associated with the virus since the outbreak.
