Customers at Starbucks in China must have widened their eyes when reading the menu, but the chain is now offering a new flavor of braised pork latte: a combination that won't convince the majority.
“I allow both [porc et café] In my stomach at the same time, but not in my mouth at the same time,” one user joked in response to the channel's ad shared on Chinese social network Weibo, according to CNN on Tuesday.
In celebration of the Lunar New Year on February 10, the company added a Cafe Latte with Dongpo braised pork flavored sauce, espresso and frothed milk to its menu, according to the application Starbucks Delivery Service.
The drink is also topped with a rack of pork belly, as seen in the images shared on X.
“Eating meat means prosperity in the coming year,” the Shanghai roaster Starbucks Reserve wrote on Weibo days before the start of the Lunar New Year, one of Asia's biggest celebrations, often crowned with braised pork. American media.
In the comments of the ad, which has been viewed more than 476,000 times, some customers expressed interest, while others were more skeptical about the original taste, sold for 68 yuan, or about $13.
To mark the celebration, the company is also serving up other holiday flavors, including a jujube macchiato, New Year's rice cakes and an almond tofu macchiato, according to CNN.
