COVID-19: A mirage of collective immunity

Six months have passed since the vaccination of the general population in Canada began. And while the goal of vaccinating 75% of people has been met, for all intents and purposes, COVID-19 is of concern to health officials.

According to Andre Willett, an immunologist at the Montreal Clinical Research Institute, targeted mass immunity may never be achieved since the vaccine campaign began.

The latter believes that it is better to settle for partial herd immunity, which ensures that the number of vaccinated cases decreases over time.

“I think this is not the mass immunity we initially hoped for,” Andre Willett said in an interview with TVA Novelles.

The immunologist reminded us that the best way to protect yourself from COVID-19 is not to rely on mass immunity, but to take two doses of the vaccine yourself.

“If there are people who have taken a single dose, they should rush to take their second dose,” Willett said.
