COVID-19: The Quebec Health Network is more affected than any other province

According to new data released Thursday by the Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI), Quebec’s health network is much more affected by COVID-19 than other provinces.

In Quebec, 12.3% of health care workers are exposed to COVID-19. This is much higher than in other provinces or territories, where the rate is between 5.5% and 4.4%, while the national average is 6.8%.

In total, Quebec has 45,320 health care workers, while Ontario, second in the rankings, has 23,557 infected workers.

And of the 43 deaths among health workers in Canada, 13 were in Quebec.

La Belle Province was also infected with many soldiers who came to lend a hand in the heights of the crisis. Of the 55 soldiers infected in the country, 41 were reported to have been infected while providing emergency assistance on Quebec soil.

Nationally, the number of Canadian health care workers infected with COVID-19 continues to rise from 65,920 to 94,873 (as of June 15, 2021) from January 2021. It accounts for 7% of all COVID-19 cases in Canada.

The proportion of Canadian health care workers infected with COVID-19 is higher than the total number of cases in France, Germany and the United States (as of May-June 2021).

Also, according to CIHI data, ‘according to data from Ontario, Manitoba and British Columbia, patient attendants are 3.3 times more likely to be infected with COVID-19 than physicians, and 1.8 times more likely than nurses.
