Christmas lights and decorations are flying on store shelves as people around Lower Mainland try to start their holiday fun.

“At home hardware in Seychelles, we see sales of Christmas items earlier this year and sooner,” said Assistant Manager Ken Custense. “If you want something, don’t stop it or it will be too late.”

A similar story in Point Gray can be verified by Bernard Law, owner of Hever Home Hardware.

“People, they’re at home, so they’re going to decorate, make their house look beautiful,” he said. “My wife, she’s so hype putting lights on me. I went home last night and I got all these lights and I put them on and she said ‘Oh, it’s so much fun.’ ”

As the COVID-19 pandemic spreads in its ninth month, people are exploring ways to inspire themselves. Starting seasonal celebrations is a popular option.

When asked by Postmedia, many respondents said they were going to install “double lights” this year.

“I love Christmas, and with all the cancellations this year we lost everything – new tree, new lights,” said Surrey resident Mary Sheridan. “Plus, I lost my job because of the epidemic. I need all the excitement I can get. “
