In the wake of the cybertalk that hit the La Place 0-5 platform earlier this year, Bibliotech et Archives has urged sections and communities such as du Quebec (BAnQ) to block their digital services.
“As a precautionary measure, all ministries and communities that use systems similar to the one in question are asked to close immediately if they have data that they deem sensitive to their digital services,” Conceil du Treasure explained in a press release Friday.
The Government Cyber Defense Center (CGCD) and the Government Cyber Defense Network are now responsible for this personal data leak case.
“At present, there are no indications that other personal or confidential information has been stolen,” he said.
The personal information of thousands of parents, including Family Minister Matthew Lacombe, is related to a cyber attack conducted by the La Place 0-5 site, which provides a waiting list for places at day care centers in the province.
BAnQ disrupts its online services
The Quebec Library and National Archives announced in the evening that it was blocking some part of its computer systems following CGCD’s request.
Hence the decision to close Grande Bibliothec and suspend some online services until Tuesday morning.
“It is important to note that there is no data leakage from customers of Grande Bibliothec or any other service,” he added.
The BAnQ website can be accessed as remote information and reference services.
Created in November 2019, the CBCD’s mandate is to monitor cyber threats and establish cyber security practices in Quebec public administration.
