If you're under the impression that online scams have doubled in recent months, you're right, confirms cyber security consultant at Trilogium Jacques Sauve, who also points out that Quebec is the leader in fraud and scams in Canada for the third year in a row.
“People should act responsibly. You want to use gadgets, phones, and then websites, that's fine. It is incredible what we are doing these days, but learning to spot the deceptions and tactics used by cyber bad guys comes with a responsibility,” Mr Saw said in an interview with LCN.
The survey revealed that 68% of respondents said they know the signs of fraud.
However, only 35% of the respondents feel that identifying efforts is easy.
“It's not easy to spot. There are cyber bad guys who are very good at what they do,” agrees the cyber security consultant.
In this regard, he provoked an immediate backlash of scammers after Francois Legault's announcement promising $500 reimbursements to compensate for inflation.
“Immediately, people received text messages inviting them to click here to deposit their $500,” the consultant exemplified, recalling that the site people were redirected to was particularly trustworthy.
