FIQ has signed a collective agreement with Quebec

The new agreement will take effect on October 10 and will run until March 31, 2023.

FIQ represents 76,000 members, most of whom are nurses, nursing assistants and respiratory therapists in Quebec.

Negotiations with the Interprofessional Health Federation were not more labor intensive. The first agreement on working conditions was agreed in November 2020 and later rejected by the interim company. A better agreement on working conditions was finally approved in December 2020. Then there were another round of talks in 2021 to agree on other issues.

Finally, the global agreement was approved by a small percentage of members, i.e. 54% – a sign of persistent dissatisfaction in the nursing profession, with recurring shortages, mandatory overtime, attractive full-time positions and nurse-patient ratios.

The new agreement addresses these issues, especially by stabilizing care teams and adding full-time positions. It offers “recognition bonuses” to health care professionals.
