Haiti | The president’s funeral was assassinated on July 23, when former leader Aristide returned

Jovnell Moss’ funeral will take place on July 23 in the city of Cap-Haitian, nine days after the leader was assassinated by armed commandos at his home, the government announced.

Interim Prime Minister Claude Joseph told a news conference that his wife Martin Moss, who was injured in the attack and was hospitalized in Miami, would return to Haiti to attend the funeral.

Haitian police have arrested 20 people, including several former Colombian soldiers accused of being part of a commando that came to kill Jovnell Moss, but the gray areas are still under investigation.

Colombian police, who are also investigating, said Friday that former Haitian Ministry of Justice official Joseph Felix Badio has ordered two of Colombian mercenaries to assassinate the president.

Commando members were initially ordered to arrest Mr Moss, Colombian police chief George Vargas, three days before the operation, until instructions changed.

Joseph Felix Bodeo, a research notice initiated by Haitian authorities similar to former Senator John Joel Joseph, described both as “dangerous and armed” individuals.

Colombian law enforcement, however, did not say whether Joseph Felix acted on the Body Sponsorship Order or gave reasons for the order.

Haitian police on Sunday arrested a Haitian Christian, Emmanuel Sanon, a Florida sponsor.

The convenience of the attackers to kill Jovnell Moyes has aroused suspicion in his security team, detaining his leader Dmitry Herard and three other officers and taking precautionary measures before 24 officers.

“The investigation will be successful,” Claude Joseph promised Friday, confirming that the investigation was “very important to him”.

Meanwhile, former President Jean-Bertrand Aristide has returned to the island, where several hundred of his supporters have been waiting.

He traveled to Cuba in late June for COVID-19 treatment.

A former Catholic priest, Mr. Aristide was the first person to be elected President of Haiti. He was overthrown by the uprising in 1991 and went into exile before returning to Haiti in 1994 after American intervention.

He became president again in 2001, under pressure from the United States, France and Canada to resign in 2004, leading to an armed uprising and a popular uprising.

He joined South Africa in 2011 before returning to Haiti.
