Motorists had to take a detour to Drummondville in the center-du-Quebec on Saturday due to the preventive closure of Highway 20.
“# A20 is closed indefinitely in both directions near Boulevard Foucault (km 181) in Drummondville. Bypasses 122 and 143,” Transport Quebec said in a tweet early Saturday afternoon.
Workers noticed that three chimneys in the same sector collapsed while work was being carried out on Highway 20, which was not under the responsibility of the Minister des Transport (MTQ). The first was in the median while the other two were on either side of the road, across the shoulder, MTQ spokesman Roxanne Pellerin said.
MTQ teams are on the ground to perform the required verifications. A team of experts in geotechnics will visit the site to inspect the road and issue recommendations.
“This closure is for an indefinite period. We do not know the nature of the work, so we can not determine their schedule, “said Ms. Pellerin explained.
This is not the first time Highway 20 users have been bothered by an emergency closure. The anomalies observed on the Rang Saint-Edord Viaduct in St. Hyacinth were urgently closed in October 2018.
