Steps followed by T&T Supermarket
T&T Supermarket says it will offer temperature checks for clients entering its stores beginning Monday in an offer to shield customers and workers from the novel coronavirus.
“As we as a whole know, fever is the most widely recognized side effect for COVID-19,” the basic food item chain said in a Facebook post on Saturday.
“So as to ensure our clients and staff, we will give temperature check administration beginning the coming Monday (Apr 20).”
In an email, T&T CEO Tina Lee said this is a “deliberate assistance” starting Monday at “a large portion of our stores.”
“Anybody with a fever will be mercifully approached to rest at home and contact their human services supplier,” she said.

STORE INFORMATION:
· We are operating 26 stores (12 in BC, 5 in AB and 9 in ON) now, and the 27th store will be coming by end of November at Deerfoot Calgary
COVID-19 RELATED INFORMATION:
We are vigorously executing our industry-leading food safety procedures. We have taken extra actions, including:
· Employees are mandatory to have temperature check everyday before work, and will be sent home if necessary but with pay
· We put in travel restriction and any employee is required to take 14 days quarantine when return from home country
· We are frequently disinfecting our shopping carts and baskets, constantly sterilizing self serve handles, practicing social distancing, and providing hand sanitizer in high traffic areas.
· Plexiglass panel has been installed at each cashier check-out counter to better protect our colleagues and customers. T&T was the first national Canadian grocer to implement mandatory masks for employees, effective March 19, 2020 in all our 26 stores
· On May 11, we implemented mandatory face coverings for customers, with accommodations made for people with medical conditions and children under 2
· T&T was one of the first grocery chains to have employees wear facemasks. We have a unique customer and employee base that is expecting a COVID-19 response closer to what experienced countries in Asia have implemented. We believe wearing a face mask or face covering is one of the most effective ways to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
· Voluntary customer temperature checks was only one part of a multi-layered COVID-19 prevention strategy, and we did it out of an abundance of caution to protect our staff and customers. It does not detect asymptomatic cases but it does help to identify a fever of someone who does not know they have one. We suspended the voluntary temperature checks for customers on June 9 as we did not want to be turning away customers that were registering a high temperature just because they have been standing outside in the heat, or just coming in after some outdoor activity. We will decide after the summer if this practice will resume, and in the meantime, we believe the risk is still reduced with everyone in our stores wearing masks. Mandatory temperature checks for employees will remain in place.
T&T Supermarket was procured by Loblaw Companies Ltd. in 2009 yet remains freely worked. In an email, a representative for Loblaw said the organization “doesn’t have comparable plans right now.”
Markets across Canada have made a move to lessen the spread of the coronavirus since the time a worldwide pandemic was first proclaimed in March.
Since they are considered fundamental organizations, many have seen expanded interest for their items, and at times highlight line-ups outside areas.
Protective Measures taken till now
Measures that different stores across Canada have presented incorporate plexiglass shields at checkout counters to ensure clerks; cleaning items for representatives; pay increments for laborers; and requesting that customers remain six feet from one another while in the stores.
Some supermarkets have additionally established a different hour for senior residents to shop before anything else, to ensure seniors can purchase supplies in a less jam-packed condition.
