Huawei ban: “responsible decision” according to Trudeau

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has assured that his government will take a decision to impose a ban on Chinese telecommunications giant Huawei the day after its announcement, which they have been waiting for almost three years.

“This is a responsible decision for Canada, it is a decision to protect Canadians, and this is what we are going to move forward with,” he told Sideline. A press conference was held on Friday in the September-ils in North Shore.

Innovation ministers, Franకోois-Philippe Champagne and public security, Marco Mendicino, announced Thursday that they were banning Huawei and ZTE from Canada’s 5G network after an in-depth review by security agencies.

“People have been wondering for a long time when Canada will make this decision. […] It is a good time for us to study the situation and see what our allies have done, ”he said.

Mr Trudeau, however, escaped much from China out of fear of possible consequences.

“I think China, like all nations, understands the right of every country to ensure the safety of its citizens,” he said in response to a question.

“We are not alone. Many of our affiliate partners around the world have made similar decisions because the reality is that in the age we are looking at with the advent of 5G, we know to what extent technologies will become available in our daily lives,” he added.

For its part, China criticized the statement from Ottawa, ruling that it was an “unfounded” ban.

Without giving further details on these opportunities, the country said it would take “all necessary measures” to protect Chinese companies.

Keep in mind that relations between China and Canada have deteriorated since Huawei’s Chief Financial Officer Meng Wanzhou was arrested in December 2018 during a US extradition request.

Tensions escalated to a level when two Canadians, Michael Spavar and Michael Kovrig, were jailed in China.
