More than 400 members of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) have been dismissed for refusing to be vaccinated against COVID-19.
A source in the Department of Defense confirmed Chief of Staff Wayne Eyre’s decision, which was announced to CAF personnel recently.
In total, the defense said 108 “voluntary releases” and 299 “involuntary releases” — that is, dismissals — took place.
“CAF members who have been voluntarily released or released after an administrative review for non-compliance or non-compliance with CAF COVID-19 vaccination requirements and procedures may submit a new request to CAF,” the department added. In a written statement to the QMI Agency.
The mandatory vaccination program for CAF members in uniform officially ends this Friday.
The move was implemented by the Treasury Board as well as the Ministry of Defense last year and applies to the entire chain of command.
Wayne Eyre recently unveiled a new strategy to boost the CAF ranks.
As the Army struggles to meet its recruitment target, it has focused on retaining personnel through new incentives and better conditions.
