Find the error. The Trudeau government spends too much, but it spends well on its current projects.

Paradoxically, it’s hard to do better. However, this is what emerged from the latest Angus-Reid poll conducted the day after the Federal Budget.

45% of voters found Justin Trudeau to be spending too much.

But when we cite his most expensive social programs, more than two-thirds of Canadians support his choice.

As Justin Trudeau argued during his visit to Val-d’Or on Monday, “In a rich country like Canada, it’s not fair that everyone doesn’t have dental care”.

Indeed, the days of the poor pulling teeth are long gone. In the same vein, what if we didn’t help the many families who use food banks?

Welcome to the age of Apple Pie. What matters today is good intentions, not its feasibility. And for that, we have Pandemic to thank.

What billions?

A forced shutdown of the economy, the possibility of a Great Depression worthy of the 1930s, we understand that governments have thrown all budgetary probity out the window at the onset of the pandemic.

The problem became very simple.

While the concept of paying is real for citizens, it is hollowed out for governments.

So the problem is not that liberals want to expand the social safety net in the country. They don’t worry about how we are going to finance them. (For that matter, $21 billion in savings, we’ll believe it when we see it…)

They want butter, they want money, and with that they call the quail smile.
