Is the world turned upside down at Quebec Solidaire?

Quebec Solidaire (QS) has committed to suspending QST on all grocery store food, restaurant meals, clothing and other items deemed essential, prompting jousters to respond.

This standard applies to all citizens, even the wealthy. Many believe that this measure is beneficial to them during their prime consumer spending.

The proposal was supported by Amir Qadir, who was a long-time deputy for political training.

“Consumption taxes are unjust forms of taxation because they are the same taxes for all. (…) are essential tools when people buy food or go to a restaurant. These are the basic requirements,” he said.

Emmanuel Latravers wonders why clothing and restaurant purchases should be exempt from QST.

“But why put restaurants and clothes there?” She was surprised.

Mathieu Boc-Côté points out that the theme of inflation is present in all political parties, particularly the Parti Québécois (PQ), which on Wednesday proposed a check of up to $1,200 for people in need.
