Quebec Solidaire (QS) has committed to suspending QST on all grocery store food, restaurant meals, clothing and other items deemed essential, prompting jousters to respond.

This standard applies to all citizens, even the wealthy. Many believe that this measure is beneficial to them during their prime consumer spending.

The proposal was supported by Amir Qadir, who was a long-time deputy for political training.

“Consumption taxes are unjust forms of taxation because they are the same taxes for all. (…) are essential tools when people buy food or go to a restaurant. These are the basic requirements,” he said.

Emmanuel Latravers wonders why clothing and restaurant purchases should be exempt from QST.
