“It’s disgusting, it’s disrespectful”

Montreal’s Notre-Dame-des-Neiges cemetery is still closed 42 days after a strike by operations workers. The grieving person condemns the situation.

Jimmy Koliakoudakis’ mother died six months ago and she won’t be buried until August 30th. “For us, it’s a disgusting situation. The families, we have no respect in this whole situation,” Jimmy Koliakoudakis said.

“It’s the second bereavement, it’s hard. I have talked to other family members and they are having nightmares. “What we have to experience in the months of January, February and March, we will experience again in August and September,” he expressed.

Graves and facilities at Notre-Dame-des-Neiges Cemetery continue to be maintained.

“The work is going well. There are still many things to do. However, we are more than 70% away from capturing and preserving the scene. We are on schedule. Teams are working hard to finalize everything for the resumption very soon,” assured Michel Saint-Amour of the fabric of the Notre-Dame de Montréal parish.

Families have been waiting for more than seven months to pray at the graves of their loved ones.

Notre-Dame-des-Neiges Cemetery opens on September 11.
