Leave us alone with the new taxes!

Leave us alone with the new taxes!

On Monday, we learned that elected officials from the Plante administration want us to tax vacant housing, car trips and large asphalt parking lots.

Yes, other taxes! We really need it!

Seriously, these elected officials are completely disconnected from the daily lives of their fellow citizens.

Cost of living crisis, inflation, key rate, homeless citizens, do they mean anything? Or the elect are on another planet.

Politicians always want more money so they can spend more, and any excuse is good.

environment

Of course, all this under the guise of saving the planet.

In their report, we can read that the municipality should: “Over the next few years, identify and adopt possible eco-economic measures to encourage environmentally-responsible behavior and facilitate environmental transition. »

Follow behaviors to protect the environment, no problem. But, why always levy or propose new taxes?

Governments can encourage good behavior by giving a benefit instead of a penalty. For example, we may give a tax deduction for an environmentally-responsible action.

A carrot instead of a stick. That’s a different approach, right?

at full speed

Currently, governments at all levels are racing against time to mitigate the effects of climate change.

Politicians want to move too quickly. But, we are in a marathon and not a sprint. We need to find solutions that stretch over many years without impacting taxpayers’ wallets.

In general, profits from our natural resources should be used to pay for the energy transition. But since we decided not to use hydrocarbons anymore, our politicians want to come and take more money out of our pockets.

Our elected officials must remember one thing: no problem is solved because of taxation.
