“It is a matter of funding in the hands of governments and municipalities or the public. It will be a mix of clean equity, investors and subsidies,” consortium SAF + Big Boss Jean Paquin assured.
“We want to make clean fuel,” he said.
“The commercial plant we want to develop is on the order of $ 350 million. We are talking about producing 30 million liters,” he said.
Airbus boarding
On Thursday, French giant Airbus announced its intention to join the SAF + consortium to produce “sustainable aviation fuel”.
For Consortium SAF +, which connects Air Transat, Hydro-Quebec, Airports de Montreal, Polytechnic Montreal and Aero Montreal, this is an important moment in the history of the sector.
In general, the consortium aims to transform SAF + Montreal into a sustainable aviation hub in North America with a pilot plant for “clean fuel”.
More precisely, the question of whether it can produce power-to-liquid synthetic e-fuel (PTL), or carbon dioxide (CO2), is extracted and synthesized with renewable (green) hydrogen.
Familiar FitzGibbon
Currently, about fifteen people are testing plant production near old petrochemical plants east of Montreal. Ottawa 2 provided 2.2 million for the project.
“I have indirectly met on some technical platforms, such as Ecotech, Pierre FitzGibbon. I told him about our project, ”said Jean Paquin, who has not yet had a sharp discussion.
“I am a Quebec above all else. I always wanted to develop Quebec. I have always believed that there are extraordinary resources, ”he concluded.
