Officials have repeated several times since Monday: it will take several days to establish an accurate picture of the situation regarding the megaconstruction site of the Louis-Hippolyte-La Fontaine bridge-tunnel.
Three days after the start of construction, rush hour is especially difficult on Wednesday afternoon. At 5 p.m., it took more than an hour to reach the tunnel from Highway 40.
To mitigate the situation, the Ministère des Transports du Québec (MTQ) recommends that motorists change lanes as late as possible.
“For better fluidity, we recommend that motorists drive in the left lane (…) and, even if it reacts, enter the right lane as late as possible,” explained MTQ spokesman Martin Girard.
Listen to Valerie the plant Mario Dumont at the microphone on QUB Radio:
Combined with the cooperation of motorists already in the right lane, this method allows for a “gain of fluidity”.
“So for everyone else, it’s going to go a little bit faster,” he said.
