Mexico: Google orders $ 245 million per person for “moral damages”

The American search engine giant said on Friday it had ordered Google to pay nearly $ 245 million for causing “moral damages” to a person in Mexico, announcing its intention to appeal.

On June 13, Google ordered lawyer Ulrich Richter Morales to pay five billion pesos in favor of his wife and their joint venture, the American company said in a brief statement to AFP.

Google alleges that the lawyer “allowed the blog to spread” in a way that damaged his reputation.

“We regret once again the denial of the appeal” from the Civil Court in Mexico City. The case is now likely to go up to the Supreme Court.

Plaintiff alleges that Google allowed him to spread a blog that implicated him in money laundering, infection peddling, and misrepresentation of documents.

“No word on it. Thank you,” the lawyer commented on Twitter this Friday, author of several books on citizenship, one of which is called Digital citizen. Fake News and Post Truth in the Internet Age.

Morales said Richter had asked Google to remove the blog from 2015.

He filed a complaint for “moral damages” and had already won the first case.

Google has already received a number of similar complaints in other countries.

In early June, an Australian federal court ordered the internet giant to pay more than 466,000 euros to an Australian politician who believed he had been defamed in videos of a comedian hosted on Google-owned YouTube.
