Officially the CAQ candidate, Martin Biron advocated the 3rd link

After officially becoming a CAQ candidate in Quebec’s South Shore, former political analyst Martin Biron came to the defense of the 3.^e Link, on Wednesday, acknowledged the need for more studies to demonstrate its need.

“Anyone who lives in Quebec knows that a third link is needed. There are serious problems with both bridges. […] I know there are unanswered questions. I discussed it with Mr. Legault, we are aware of it,” said M^me Biron at a press conference where Prime Minister Francois Legault confirmed she is the CAQ candidate in Chutes-de-la-Chaudiere.

As a political analyst in her past, Martine Biron criticized the lack of traffic studies to support the construction of the $6.5 billion tunnel between Quebec and Lévis.

“The project office is in place, we will answer questions. I am confident that at the beginning of the next term, we will be able to answer these questions quickly,” the candidate added.

On his part, Prime Minister Legault clarified that studies are already in place. “You have to improve them,” he says, to account for the pandemic and telework. “But to me, as Martin said, it’s clear that we need a new link,” Mr Legault said.

Moreover, the two are now talking about a “replacement link” that will become necessary with the aging of the two existing bridges.

The Prime Minister also took advantage of his speech to review the progress of the work. Although the CAQ promised the first shovelful of soil before the election, the tunnel is still in the first drilling phase to determine the nature of the soil.

“Yes, I would like the work to progress more quickly. But we have a pandemic, we have also reviewed the project, to go from six lanes to four lanes”, he defended himself.

Surprisingly, M.^me Biron had to explain his rapid transition between his role as a political analyst in Quebec for Radio-Canada and active politics within the ruling party.

“I know I did things right. I have built my career on ethics,” she says, ensuring that she never “wears two hats” as an analyst and as a future candidate.

Martine Biron said she rejected the first approach from the CAQ earlier in the year and agreed to a new proposal last July while she was on vacation.

Nor is she afraid that her past analyzes will harm her in relationships with her new colleagues. M^me Biron was heavily critical of the Quebec caucus in his final report error.

“I talked about Genevieve Guilbault, about her arrogance, about her big head, but at the same time I already said that this girl is a gift,” she noted.

Unlike many MPs and candidates in the region, Smt.^me Guilbault was absent from the event, which ministers Jonathan Julian and Eric Keir also criticized in M’s text.^me Biron. It was argued that the three ministers should participate in the ministerial committee before the cabinet meeting on Wednesday.

Rejecting the label of arrogance, the Deputy Prime Minister took his new colleague’s comments philosophically. “I won’t hold it against him. I understand what you have to do, and Mr.^me Biron,” she told the parliamentary press.

In addition, the outgoing MP for Chutes-de-la-Chaudiere took advantage of the press briefing to respond to the comments of Mario Fortier, the Conservative candidate in the riding. Later on Monday, he said that there was a ‘pack’ in the constituency to make room for the star candidate Mark Picard, who was elected since 2003.

“It’s unpleasant because Mario Fortier knows my spouse very well. […] This is petty politics,” said Jagan, who is retiring from politics to take care of his critically ill spouse.
