Ontario receives 2.4M doses of Pfizer, Moderna COVID-19 vaccine

Ontario Health Minister Christine Elliott said Canada will receive four million doses of the Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine and two million doses of the modern vaccine between January and March.

This includes 1.6 million Pfizer vaccines for Ontario and 800,000 modern vaccines.

Pfizer Announced Wednesday Their vaccine has an efficacy rate of 95 percent and requires approval “within days” from U.S. regulators to allow emergency use of the vaccine.

After Moderna Inc.’s second experimental COVID-19 vaccine gave strong initial results, its vaccine appears to be 94.5 percent effective, according to preliminary data from an ongoing study.

Elliott made the announcement during a question period in the Ontario Legislature.

“We hope to receive shipments from both Pfizer and Modernna,” Elliott confirmed. “For our significant problems, especially with the Pfizer vaccine, it should be stored at 75C and Modernna – 20C.”

“People need to take two doses over a 21-day period. This is a big transportation challenge, but right now we have a whole bunch at the Ministry of Health planning for it,” Elliott said.

“As soon as we receive that consignment from the federal government, it will be ready for delivery,” she said.
