The mother of Gabriel Pino, who mysteriously disappeared five years ago after vacationing with friends in Quebec, cries out from the heart in hopes of getting new leads to find him.
“The last memory I have of Gabriel is him hugging me and telling me he loves me. It's like yesterday … “said Nathalie Tremblay, the mother of the deceased, with difficulty, a tremor in her voice.
Almost five years after the teenager's disappearance, Quebec police deployed a mobile command post near 3928, Boulevard Sainte-Anne in the Beauport sector.
“We don't want this file to go into oblivion. The investigation is still ongoing,” said Lawrence Godbout, spokesperson for the Quebec City Police Service (SPVQ).
Investigators are scheduled to meet with citizens from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and collect “any element that may help identify him.” However, no new details regarding the investigation have been revealed.
Remain a hermit?
Gabriel Pineau, 19, died on August 30, 2019 at 11:30 p.m. near his home on Avenue du Sous-Bois in Beauport. He had just returned by taxi from an evening with friends in downtown Quebec.
That evening, Mr. Pineau allegedly sent a message to his friends on the Snapchat application telling them he loved them and “I'll see them again in two years” before disappearing.
Shortly after his disappearance, his cell phone was found in the same area. Internet searches for homes in the forest turned up his history, his mother said.
“Did he prepare asceticism in the woods? We don't know. Things are going well at home…'' she whispers.
Message to be sent
If Mme Addressing the media Thursday, Tremblay took advantage of the expansion of the command post to breathe new life into the search.
“We no longer ask questions about what happened that day because we don't want to torture ourselves anymore […] But if you know something, speak up,” she said.
“We love you, Gabriel. But we want you to let us know, so we know you're okay. We'll never forget you. We're waiting for you,” she concluded, hoping her son was still alive.
